At an early age, Cheryl was baptized at Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the Houston Heights. She participated in the Stars of Harmony youth choir, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Cheryl graduated from S.P. Waltrip High School in Houston and also attended the University of Arizona. Cheryl later worked as a medical assistant.
Cheryl participated in many plays throughout her school years. She loved art and the performing arts, performing as Lady Liberty and later participated in various talent competitions. Over the years, Cheryl would write numerous songs, and poems, many of which were published.
Cheryl enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for several years. She later married Arthur Joseph Murphy, Sr. and to this union two sons were born: Arthur Joseph Murphy II (April) and Steven Joseph Murphy (Tonya): granddaughter Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur.
She is survived by her mother Mildred Orphe, sister Donna Scott (James), brother Carl (Marcia) and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
