Charles Edward Tyrone was born on April 13, 1954 in Sumrall, Mississippi to the late Pastor Hardy D. Preston and Clarice Tyrone. He is the eldest of three sibling brothers. He graduated Salutatorian from Sumrall High, and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He minored in music with emphasis on voice. On October 20, 1990 he married Debbie Jones. He was the father of one son, Miguel. Charles Tyrone organized the Faith Community Singers in January of 1988. In 1994, Charles and the Faith Community Singers were featured in the Hollywood production “Jason’s Lyrics.” They have also appeared on BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel. Tyrone and the group have traveled nationally and internationally singing praises to God and ministering to people. Charles has been the recipient of numerous awards. In 1997, Charles Tyrone and the Faith Community Singers were 1st place winners of the Houston Texas Regional Wrigley’s Gospel Choir Awards. Charles’ work in Houston include ministering at several area churches, and serving as Minister of Music at Bella Vista, The Community Of Faith, Mt. Sinai and St. Luke’s Worship Center. As the founder of T. Genesis Records, recordings to his credit include “I’ve Got Jesus” by Charles Tyrone and the Bella Vista Mass Choir. Also featured on that album was the song “Out on a Hill.” Since 2002, Tyrone has survived extensive physically illness. After his second stroke, his doctors told his wife that he would never walk or talk again, however, knowing that God is in control Charles is not able to walk and talk, but he is able to sing the words he penned in this song “Testimony” – “I’ll let my presence be a testimony of how good God’s been to me.” Charles leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted and beloved wife: Debbie; son: Miguel (Tammie); brothers: Larry (Audrey) of Vicksburg, Mississippi; Elder Scottie Tyrone of Sumrall, Mississippi; sisters: Dorothy Morris of Chicago, Illinois, Denise Gavin of South Haven, Michigan, Nicole Rogers of Chicago, Illinois, and Hardell Preston of Bolton, Mississippi. His mother-in-law Jerolean Jones. His aunts: Catherine Preston and Lillie Preston. His Sister-in-laws: Dr. Jacqueline (Reddith) Lewis and Gwendolyn Jones; brother-in-laws: Robert (Dorothy) Jones and Kelvin (Stephanie) Jones and two grandchildren: Maliya McCallum and Megan McBride, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
