Charles passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. He was born on August 5, 1947, in Beaumont, Texas to John James Edward and Winnie Reta (Moss) Prince. He put himself through Houston Baptist College (working for Globe Discount Stores) studying theology and history and graduated in 1971.
His 50-year retail management career included Eckerd Drugs, Oshman’s Sporting Goods, Leewards Craft, and Stage Stores. He outlived them all and retired in 2014.
Charles loved to travel and had visited 49 states. An Alaskan cruise that would have completed an item on his and his wife’s bucket list was cancelled during the pandemic. He especially loved Colorado and historical sites in New England.
After he retired, he got back into woodworking and digging deeper into his ancestry. He joined the Mayflower Society and held offices at both the State and Houston Colony levels. At times reserved, he was definitely not shy. Charles was proud to tell anyone and everyone that of the 120 passengers on the Mayflower that arrived in 1620, he was related to 21 of them. There were also four presidents and one first lady on his family tree and a grand uncle that died at the Alamo. Additionally, he was a member of the Jamestown Society.
He will be deeply missed by all for his smile, wit, jokes, laughter, honesty and generosity.
Charles is survived by Judyann, his wife of almost 37 years, his son Scott and wife Margaret, granddaughters Maya, Isabella and Chloe, his brother Ed and wife Helene, his sister Ethel Courrrejolles, and many nieces, nephews and LOTS of cousins.
Should you so desire, the family requests that donations be made in his name to your favorite charity or to the Houston Colony Scholarship Fund to honor his many years of devotion and service. Please make a check payable to Houston Colony SOMD and mail to Sandra Sauers, Houston Colony Treasurer at 8522 Pool Creek Drive, Houston, TX 77095. Please indicate that the check should be used for the Scholarship Program.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Joseph J. Earthman Generations Chapel, 234 Wescott Houston, Tx 77007.
