Charles Henry Mayo

Charles (Chuck) Henry Mayo, 90, of Shenandoah, TX passed away on July 22, 2022, surrounded by family. He was born in Brownsville, TX on August 25, 1931. After graduating he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served our country from 1950-1954 as an Airman during the Korean war. Chuck loved being involved in his local community and never met a stranger. He was an avid golfer throughout his life all the way into his 80s! He enjoyed fast cars and spending time with his family and friends. Chuck was extremely proud of the family he helped to build and rarely missed a family gathering.

Preceded in death by his father, Jeff T. Mayo, mother, Devah Dell Dillingham, stepmother, Jewell Mayo, brother, Roy Lee Mayo and stepdaughter, Linda Bilbrey.

Survived by his wife, Melba Sanders Mayo, of 26 years, his three children, daughter, Vickie Ritchie (Arless), son, Jimmy Mayo, daughter, Rhonda Hanson (Mike). His eight grandchildren Shawn Williams (Candice), Kylea Oppenlander (Billy), Ty Brooks Charles Smith (Christina), James Mayo (Cassandra), Wayne Mayo, Chelsea Bryce (Matt), Kyle Hanson (Maggie), Kayla Hanson (Rylee O’Neal). His ten great-grandchildren Lily Oppenlander, Branson Williams, Ashlynn Williams, Bernadette Dunn, Journey Smith, Daniel Mayo, Lucie Ann Hanson, Emily Bryce, Lainey Hanson, and Dylan Bryce.

The family wants to sincerely thank everyone for the prayers and condolences. Chuck will truly be missed but his memory will live on forever.

A visitation for Charles will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A funeral service will occur Friday, August 19, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A committal service will occur Friday, August 19, 2022 from 2:15 PM to 2:45 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
