Charles Hunter Jr. entered this world on June 15, 1947 in Selma, Alabama. He was the only child of Charles “Charlie” Hunter Sr. and Lillie Belle Burroughs Hunter. Both preceded him in death. Charles was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and at age 16 he was inducted as an Eagle Scout. He was educated in the Mobile, Alabama public school system and graduated from Central High School in 1965. He then attended Talladega College where he met the love of his life, Jewell Thompson. Charles graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Charles and Jewell married after he graduated in July 1969. They had a double wedding ceremony with Jewell’s sister Cassandra and her husband, in Nashville, Tennessee at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church. To this union two sons were born, Charles Hunter III and Vernon David Hunter.
Charles was drafted into the Army in October 1969. In September 1971, Charles was honorably discharged from the Army. In October 1971, he started working with Texaco Inc. in Birmingham, Alabama as a Marketing Representative, where he received numerous awards for his salesmanship.
