Charles (Chuck) F Hammond, age 58, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Houston, TX on October 13, 2016. He was the youngest son of Charles Hammond Jr. and Bonnie Jean Hammond. Charles was born in Glendale, CA in 1958 and was a graduate of St. Genevieve’s High School of Panorama City, CA.
During his life, Charles lived in the Burbank, CA, Germany, Phoenix, AZ, with his final residence in Houston, TX. He traveled to many places during his lifetime including Europe and India.
He served in the US Army from 1976 through 1982. He spent 3 years in Germany during his enlistment, including several years on the Reserves list. He spent many years working in construction before his position with the University of Phoenix, as a Corporate Trainer. His final position was as a self-employed High Performance Coach.
Charles was a man who loved and served God. Upon moving to Houston in December of 2015, he became an active member of Lakewood Church, the Men’s Ministry, and recently proudly finished his training to work in the Usher Ministry.
Known to lend a hand when needed, he willingly provided help to family, his son’s Cub Scouts troop, his kids junior baseball teams, friends, his church, the community, and Junior Achievement of AZ. Over the years, he provided career and life mentoring to family, friends, and students.
He enjoyed time with his family, traveling to new places, meeting new people, learning, and walking his dogs. His favorite hobby was model railroading, where he was a member of the NMRA and participated in several clubs over his lifetime, including the Thunderbird Model Railroad Club in Phoenix, AZ.
His parents Big Chuck (1995) and Bonnie (2016) precede him in death. He is survived by his loving wife Deirdre Hammond, his daughter Kathleen McClain (Bill), his son Robert Kurtz, his granddaughter Mary Grace McClain, his brother Edward Hammond (Soula), and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charles was a big man, with a big heart, was loved by many, and he will be greatly missed.
