Charlie was born Sept. 28, 1940 in LaGrange, Tex. to Gilbert Elolf and Irene Rebecca Vezzetti.
He grew up in Houston and graduated from Sam Houston High School and went on to study electrical engineering. He was hired by Schlumberger in 1961. He retired in 1994.
In 1958, he met the love of his life, Sarah Manley and they were married in Houston in 1962. During his time with Schlumberger he had the opportunity to live in various towns throughout West Texas. In 1965, he and Sarah were blessed with their daughter, Sandy. Three years later they were blessed with their son, John Allen.
Throughout his life, he was active in the Houston Masonic Lodge and spent most of his time helping around St. Timothy’s UMC. When St. Timothy’s received a new building in 1974, he and other members of the church put the final touches on the interior of the building making it a home for multiple generations.
Charlie was a quiet, strong person who never wanted to be in the limelight. But he was one of the first to volunteer in the background to build or work on projects or help anyone in need.
He loved camping, going on cruises and his family. He will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, his puns and his giving nature. He will be sorely missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Irene Elolf and his parents in-law, Ivan and Rachel Manley and brother-in-law David Theriot.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sarah; daughter, Sandy and son-in-law Bryan Faler; his son, John Allen and his daughter-in-law Stacie Elolf; His grandchildren, Aubrey and Daniel Heki, Laura and Travis Faler, Jill and Alana Elolf; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Riley and Logan Heki; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane Elolf and sister, Joyce Theriot; and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Memorial Hermann Memorial City ICU and at Vitas Hospice who took such good care of Charlie over the past two months.
A memorial service for Charlie will be held Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at St. Stephens’ United Methodist Church at 2003 W. 43rd St. Houston TX.
