Mr. Curtis died January 30, 2015, after a short illness. He was born January 2, 1936, in Red Bank, New Jersey to Cornelia L. (Minton) and Thomas H. Curtis. He is survived by Solange (Bandet), his wife of 52 years, his son Ronald and wife Amy, and grand-daughters Abigail and Gabrielle, son Thomas and wife Rebecca, and daughter Emma and husband Ian Miller. He also leaves behind sister Doris, her husband Jim Wenner, and brother William, wife Joan Curtis, and beloved nieces and nephews and friends.
Mr. Curtis graduated from Rumson High School in Rumson, NJ in 1953, having excelled in math and english. A polite and mild-mannered young man, he attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ and graduated with a B.A. degree in Geology in 1957. He went on to enjoy a successful career as a Geoscientist that spanned over 50 years, starting with Aero Service Corporation in Phila., PA in 1957. He most enjoyed traveling to foreign countries on site assignments, including Chile, Peru, Ecuador, India, Algeria, Tunisia, and Yemen. He loved learning new languages and experiencing different cultures, cuisine, and customs. His methodical approach to solving problems, formidable determination, and conscientious work ethic contributed to a reputation for providing quality results amongst colleagues and clients. He was most proud of his technical writing skills and collaborated on several articles written for various professional journals over the years, as well as a presenter at multiple annual meetings of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG). Always well organized, efficient, and holding himself to the highest personal standard, he represented all the companies he worked for over the years with distinction.
Among his many accomplishments, his most enduring was being a good husband and father. He loved his family very much. He was always ready to throw the frisbee, play horseshoes, shoot baskets in the driveway, or have a catch in the front yard. He was a good golfer, and an avid league bowler and dart player in his youth. He enjoyed model railroading, watching old movies, old cars, military history, and baseball. His quick wit, humor, and sharp intellect will be missed by his family and friends.
