Charles Douglas Cox

Except for the several years he was in the U.S Air Force, Charles spent the remainder of his life in Houston. Following his military service during the Korean Conflict, he completed his college at University of Houston with a degree in Business Administration. Charlie was employed by Western Electric and later AT&T, where he had 38 years of service, mostly management positions.

After retiring in 1988, he began a second career in real estate with Gary Greene Realtors. Charles was quite successful accumulating many plaques in the Presidents’ Circle and Chairman Circle as a top producing realtor in the Northwest area.

Charlie loved a good game of golf with his friends and in the later years enjoyed traveling.

Charles was a deacon and Sunday School Teacher at the Uvalde Calvary Baptist Church in the 70’s. Later he moved his membership to the Windwood Presbyterian he was an active elder and Sunday School Teacher from 1983- present.

He is preceded in death by his parents James Bernard and Lennie Stewart Cox, ex-wife, two daughters Terri Leworthy and Sharon Beckham, and his sister Mozelle Gifford.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Julie Cox, and 3 stepchildren who are Shelly (Michael) Mueller, Dawn (Scotty) Rolls, Reverend Mitchell (Mary) Chandler.

Charlie has a grandson Stephen Beckham and 12 step grandchildren, Jack Mueller, McKenzie Mueller, Tabitha Roybal, Rebekah Hogan, Bryan Powell, Jeffrey Powell, Johnnie Peterman, Hannah Zachary, Kristen Schmidt, Garrett Mueller, Keegan Mueller, Veronica Murphy and Cassie Hutchinson. In addition, he leaves behind 24 great grandchildren.

Charles can be viewed at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery from 1 pm to 4 pm on Friday, July 19th in the Colonial Chapel Room. Services are July 20th at 12:30 pm at Windwood Presbyterian Church followed by a Committal Service at the cemetery presided over by Reverend Kevin Rudolph and Reverend Dr Pat Ryan. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Windwood Presbyterian Church Memorial Committee.
