He was born on April 17, 1926 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. His parents lived in Houston at the time but his mother was determined to have him born on Oklahoma soil.
Bill grew up in the Houston Heights, attending Hogg Jr High School and Reagan High School where he met his future wife Exa Lee Drawe. He went on to The Rice Institute on a baseball scholarship after serving in WWII. After graduating from Rice he took a coaching job in Smithville, TX. Bill and Exa Lee came back to Houston when he accepted a coaching position at Hogg Jr HS then a position at Sam Houston HS and finally the head baseball coach at Sterling HS. He continued his tenure at the HISD administration office until his retirement in the mid 1980s.
He is preceded in death by his parents Parry and Ruth Bishop and his sister Frances Fowler.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Exa Lee, daughter Ann Bishop, son Boyd Bishop (Ildiko) and grandson Alex Bishop, and daughter Laura Briggs (Ed) and grandchildren Melanie Schulin (Casey) and Trey Briggs, nieces Susan Fowler Josey (Lenoir) and Nancy Fowler Atwood.
The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Wanda Wiltz for the loving care she gave our Dad for the past ten years.
Friends and family will gather after the graveside service at St Matthews United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall 4300 N. Shepherd Dr, Houston, TX 77018..
