Charlene "Charlie" Combs, 57, passed away October 3, 2013. Born in Modesto, California, June 3, 1956, Charlie made her way to Houston in 1977 and forever after called Texas home. She was an artist, poet and photographer, and one of her great joys in life was being out on the back roads, camera in hand. Charlie enjoyed life to the fullest, having traveled extensively. She rode motorcycles, loved the desert and remote places, and pursued many adventures that others only dream about. She loved old toys, architecture, art, and a good non-fiction book. Her life often revolved around artistic pursuits, and she hoped to be remembered for those things. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Franks, and her father, Elda Charles Combs, her "boys," Carl, Bryan, Murphy, Randy, Jeff and Steve, and her cherished friend Gloria Gage. She is survived by the important women in her life, Mary Anne Sandoz, Tanja Dimmit Smith, Julie Gray, Virginia von Pechmann and Cortney Grubbs, as well as several dear friends who will greatly miss her, including Beverly Barkalow, Ann Solomon, the Gage family, Joe and Kara, and January Welsh. Services will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home on Friday, October 11th, 2013, at 1:00p.m. In memory of Charlie, pay a visit to a nursing home and be kind to those you find there.
