Growing up, Cecilia was part of a large family and spent many years helping in the family home to raise her younger siblings. She became a waitress at a restaurant early in her adult life and by chance met the love of her life, Raymond Bartkowiak during one of her shifts.
Raymond and Cecilia married and from that union their son, John was born.
After relocating to Houston in 1962, Cecilia started working as a building supervisor in the old Gulf Oil building in downtown Houston. She spent many years cleaning and taking care of the building during the overnight hours. Cecilia eventually found her calling in her golden years when she went to work at Wal-Mart off of Louetta and Interstate 45. She loved her role as greeter at the front door and being able to interact with customers. She proudly retired from Wal-Mart at the age of 83 years old. In her free time over the years, Cecilia loved sewing and tending to her flower garden in her yard.
She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond; parents, John and Verna Chmiel; brothers, Louis, Paul, Ike and Kie and sisters, Mary, Katie and Florine.
Her memory will live on in her beloved son John Bartkowiak.
Cecilia is also survived by her sister Tracy Guerra and numerous nephews and nieces who loved her tremendously.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Pathways Memory Care for their attention and care the past three years that Cecilia resided with them. Also, a special thank you to Pamela, a dedicated nurse from Vantage Hospice for her loving care the last two months of Cecilia’s life.
In lieu of floral memorials, please consider a donation in Cecilia’s name to the Alzheimer Association.
