CECIL HADEN MASTERSON, 56, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, the 22nd day of September 2014. Haden was born on the 18th of January 1958 in Houston. He was a fourth generation Houstonian. Haden was the son of the late Barbara Haden Neuhaus and John Cochran Masterson Jr. He attended the Kinkaid School, Memorial High School and Southwest Texas State University.
A natural athlete with phenomenal hand-eye coordination, Haden excelled at every sport in which he participated. He loved snow skiing, sailing, surfing, golf, fishing and hunting with his brothers and nephews. He was a crack shot and an accomplished horseman. His life-long love of music led him to become an accomplished guitarist and drummer. In recent years, Haden interest in nature photographer grew and, not surprisingly, he took some amazing photographs.
Haden will be remembered by his friends and family as having a “heart of gold,” a sweet disposition, generous to a fault, an out-going personality and a fully developed sense of humor. His love of life was infectious. When Haden was around, the sun seemed to shine a little brighter and life was a lot more fun - and that is why he will be missed so very much.
Haden is preceded in death by his wife Stacie Beggs Proudfoot Masterson and his elder sister the late Barbara George Briner. He is survived by his brothers John Harris Masterson and wife Catherine I. Masterson; William Douglas Masterson and his wife Shelley T. Masterson; his sister, Jennifer George Kuebler and her husband Mark Kuebler; and step sisters Lacey Neuhaus Dorn, Betts Neuhaus Armstrong an Joan Neuhaus Schaan. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: John Harris Masterson II, William Haden Masterson, William “Wills” Charles Masterson, John Hunter Masterson, Lexie Elizabeth Masterson, Holden Douglas Masterson, Philip Kuebler, Mark Kuebler, Andrew Kuebler, Mathew Kuebler, David Briner and Laura Briner.
A memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon, today, the 25th of September, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, where the Reverend Dr. Russell Jones Levenson, Jr., Rector, is to officiate.
Immediately following all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
