At the age of 17, Wayne met and fell in love with a beautiful young woman named Dianne Burt, while they were both in school. A short time later, they were married on August 22, 1958. They lived and worked in Houston, and had three children, Wendy, Mike and Karen. Wayne and Dianne were happily married for 46 years, until Dianne passed away in January of 2005. Wayne lost the love of his life and missed her dearly everyday for the rest of his.
During his early career, Wayne worked in the stevedoring business for 9 years. He then moved into the welding supply industry where he worked for almost 44 years, with emphasis on sales and management. Over the years, he worked for Gulfco, IWECO, Westweld, United, and most recently his own company, Bowen Welding Supply. Wayne retired in 2011.
Wayne enjoyed hunting and fishing. But more than anything, he loved wade fishing. From the time he was a young boy, Wayne spent his entire life in the water chasing trout, red and flounder. He fished Galveston Bay alone or with family and friends. He especially enjoyed passing along his extensive knowledge of fishing and teaching others how to fish. He really got a kick out of seeing the novice fisherman experience the wonder and thrill of catching a fish for the first time.
