Mary Catherine Sims Massey, age 79, of Cypress, Texas, passed away on Sunday, the 6th of December 2020. Cathy was born on the 10th of February 1941, in Latexo, Texas but spent most of her life in Houston, making an indelible mark on friends, family members, and the community at large.
A graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School, Cathy attended the University of Houston where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She and her husband of 51 years, Raymond, worked together to create and run several successful businesses and were active members of the Arabia Shrine Temple. Raymond was President of the Shrine Patrol Association of North America and Cathy led the volunteers at the Shrine Hospital of Houston. She was a member of the Blue Birds and, more recently, an officer of The Heritage First Ladies from The Heritage at Towne Lake in Cypress. She also actively volunteered by making blankets for Children of Fallen Soldiers and the Project Linus chapter.
Cathy knew the value of relationships, serving as the matriarch of a large extended family and maintaining friendships for decades, such as the Bridge Broads, a small group of women who have been playing bridge and supporting each other since 1968, and serving as the organizer of events large and small for her neighborhood, various organizations, and her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Raymond Massey, Jr., her parents, Martin Culberson Sims and Bethel Aretta Parsley Sims, and her brothers, Kenneth Sims and Eugene Sims. She is survived by her sister, June Cook, her children, Sheri and Wayne Harbour of Carrollton, Raymond and Jami Massey of Round Rock, and Lori and Roger Brissette of San Antonio, her grandchildren, Jessica and Casey Lamar, Jennifer and Brian Sheffield, Taylor and Jaimie Brissette, Drew and Kassie Harbour, Chase Massey, Colin Massey, Parker Brissette, Justin Cliffe and Tyler Cliffe, and her great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Lincoln, Kennedy, Booker, Kaden, and Kayleigh.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from eleven o’clock in the morning until three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 13th of December, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Please be aware that current CDC COVID-19 recommended guidelines must be followed while in attendance.
She will be laid to rest as her ashes are scattered along with the seeds of bluebonnets and indian paintbrushes in the same place as her husband, Raymond, on their family ranch in Ledbetter, Texas.
In lieu of customary remembrances, we request donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals in the name of Cathy Massey at https://donate.lovetotherescue.org.
