Cathy was born the 22nd of July 1936, to Mattie Givens Belle and Joseph Michael Belle, of Lafayette, Louisiana. She held a B.S. in Education from Louisiana State University. Her family and friends will remember her as an intelligent, witty, elegant and independent, with a flawless sense of style.
She married James Lee Goettee in Houston, and they shared 51 wonderful years together, until he passed in 2009. They worked for many years side by side, she as his accountant, as James developed a number of subdivisions and built homes.
Cathy and James shared an adventurous travel spirit. They loved the city of Paris, where they enjoyed walking the streets and frequenting their favorite bistros. Their quest to travel to every country of the world led them on a myriad of adventures, such as the Tree Tops Lodge in Africa to the barb-wired border of Iraq and Iran, cruising on the QE2, riding the Orient Express, and camel rides in Egypt. They always had their bags packed - ready to go.
She especially looked forward to her extended family dinner gatherings for Christmas each year. This tradition seems even more poignant by her choice to reunite with her dear husband, James, on the 25th of December of this year.
She is proceeded in death by her husband James Lee Goettee.
Cathy is survived by her four children, James Lee Goettee Jr., Catherine Goettee Echols, George Givens Goettee and Anne Goettee Skidmore; her grandchildren, twins James Price Goettee and John Henry Goettee, Stuart Cape Echols, Heather Lee Goettee, Madeleine Park Skidmore and Alexander Owens Skidmore; and her children’s’ spouses, Marilyn Huggins Goettee, Caro Emerson Goettee and Christopher Alexander Skidmore.
The family will gather for a private inurnment at Forest Park Wertheimer in Houston.
