Carolyn moved to Houston in the late sixties to be close to her parents. This is where she made her life and raised her six children, five girls and one boy. While Carolyn loved her children, she held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She spoiled them each in simple ways. From letting them eat a whole box of popsicles, "because it is just Kool Aid after all" to cooking their favorite meals to perfection. And of course, defending them to the ends of the earth even though she knew they were guilty of whatever the childish offence was.
Carolyn loved reading. Her daughters often teased her about her historical romance novels, which they called trash novels and hysterical romances. In spite of the teasing, everyone in the family contributed to this hobby by making sure she was never without Barnes & Noble money. She also shared a love of baseball and a special bond with her sister and best friend, Barbara. Before life slowed down and her Astros team changed, she watched or listened to every game on the TV or radio so loud it could be heard outside. You could also hear her yelling or cheering just as loud. No matter how the Astros played, it was definitely part of the conversation with Barbara the next day. And when Barbara's beloved Cubs played, there was even more to talk about. Frequently referred to as Thelma & Louise by their kids, these two were as close as any two people could be in spite of the over 700 miles between them.
Carolyn was truly loved by all and will be greatly missed, especially by her doting children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister Barbara Burton of Sikeston, Missouri and brother Stephen McClellan of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Her daughters Kathy Liandro, Deborah West, Michelle Adams and Melissa Sullivan, and son Stephen West all of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.
Carolyn is preceded in death by parents Lawrence and Dorothy McClellan, sister Glenda Glaus, brother Larry McClellan and daughter Shannon West.
A graveside service is scheduled for June 15, 2024 at Forest Park Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers: Joshua West, Jerad Murphy, Abel Contreras Jr, Lawrence Liandro, JR Adams and Daniel West.
