Carolyn was born on December 21, 1938 to Ralph Forrest Stewart Sr. and Ruby Agnes (Gill) Stewart in Houston, Texas. She attended Milby High School where she was a proud member of the Milby Co-ed Cadets excelling as a baton twirler. While attending Milby, she met and began dating Ronald Gene Lirette in 1956. Carolyn graduated Milby in 1957 and later married Ronnie in 1959. They resided in Houston, Texas most of their life before retiring and moving to Coldspring, Texas. Together, they raised three daughters. They also served as foster parents for DePelchin Children’s Home loving and caring for three young boys until their adoption. Carolyn attended San Jacinto Junior College, as well, completing numerous courses in the business, administrative and computer science fields.
Carolyn leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband Ronnie; daughters Sherilyn Leland (Troy), Lisa Lirette (Joey Jones) and Julie Childress (Brad); grandchildren Garrett Leland (Kara), Shelby Lucadou (Jacob); great grandchildren Carson and Addison Leland and the upcoming birth of Jeremiah Lucadou; numerous honorary children, nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and her special pup Cooper.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents and loving step-fathers Alvin Horn and John Slind, brothers Ralph (Dusty) and Joe Stewart and sister Patricia (Trish) Hartman.
Carolyn was a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church for many years. She loved sewing, collecting fabrics, arts & crafts, music, dancing, baton twirling, watching mysteries, playing games, shopping, traveling but she especially loved spending time with her family. Holidays and special occasions were always cherished times.
Carolyn worked at Transcontinental Gas Company where she was chosen as Miss Transco and featured on the front cover of their publication. Carolyn was also chosen as the Marine Corps Ball sweetheart. Carolyn received many compliments throughout her life for her beauty. Carolyn also worked for Prudential, Narco Bio Systems and Betz. She assisted Ronnie in a business venture in 1980 forming their own company, Texas Equipment Rental and later in 1990, together formed Texas Equipment Systems, Inc. Carolyn spent a few years as a teacher’s assistant at the elementary level before retiring.
In her honor, a visitation will begin at 11:00am, followed by a mass at 12:00pm with a celebration of life reception immediately after at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Father Nicolas Ramirez will officiate the ceremony.

Carolyn was a very generous person all of her adult life giving to many charitable organizations. So, in lieu of flowers, you may give to one of her favorites, which are any animal rescue, including her daughter Julie’s senior dog sanctuary, Roxy’s K9 Ranch, the Salvation Army and any veteran serving organization or you may choose one of your favorites.
