Carolyn Jean McElyea Dodd, 81, of Cypress passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2018. Jean was born in Jacksonville, Texas on December 13, 1936, to Arthur and Floye McElyea. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Mark Dodd, as well as her mother and father-in-law, Jim and Jessie Dodd, and many of their children, as well as other family members.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Don Dodd. In addition, she is survived by her sister, June Lawler of Mt Pleasant as well as daughters, Jill Dodd of Houston and Jan Wright and husband, Les, of Cypress. Grandchildren include Logan and Morgan Wright and Spencer Dodd (Lora Bennett) and one great grandchild, Aislyn Dodd. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends.
Jean lived a life of service to her family, the church, and HISD for more than 30 years, 14 years serving as principal of Garden Oaks Elementary. She also helped bring to life the Women’s Auxiliary Board and Candlelighters of the Candlelight Little League community. She enjoyed time with friends and family “antiquing” as well as sharing her love for the past with people. Her legacy is the impact she made on the people around her with her kind, generous, and loving nature.
Visitation will be held at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home on June 20, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The celebration of her life will be on June 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow the funeral at the Dodd Cemetery in Dime Box, Texas at 3:00 p.m.
