Carolyn was born in Pittsburg, PA, on April 17, 1942, to Manualla and Charles A. Beatty. They moved to Houston in 1951 and became members of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Predeceased by her grandparents, parents, Aunt Ann Beatty, and an infant brother, Carolyn leaves to mourn her friends Mary Ann and Tom Cobb, Barbara Woytek, Sally and Charles Yates, M.D., Margaret and HJ Bott and countless other friends.
Miss Beatty taught seventh grade English for 32 years at Johnston Middle School in Westbury before her retirement in 1996.
A proponent of education, Carolyn graduated from Lamar High School and the University of Houston Central Campus. She attained Master’s Degrees from University of Houston Clear Lake and Houston Baptist University.
Miss Beatty was an active member of the Delta Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an International Society for Key Women Educators. As a child, she attended the Houston Institute of Music on Montrose and for many years, since her retirement was a consistent student at Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies at Rice University.
Her travels included numerous summers in Europe, Russia, Hong Kong, Canada, Mexico and the islands in the Gulf of Mexico. In 2005, she traveled for her last visit to London on the Queen Elizabeth II and in February of this year, she and her bridge club members took a Caribbean cruise.
Funeral services for Miss Beatty will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 5501 Main Street, Houston, TX 77004, at 11 am, Friday, July 6, 2012, with the Rev. Shelli Williams officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10 am with a reception in the church Parlor following the service. Interment will be at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston TX 77079.
