the age of 83.
Carol was born in Wabasha, Minnesota, on March 19, 1936 to Leo and Florence
Harney Welp.
She is survived by her five children, Kevin Boyd, Chris Boyd, Rebecca Boyd, Valerie
Boyd Simank and Holly Boyd Bullington and her two sons-in-law, Steve Simank and
John Bullington, and her four grandchildren, Mariah, Meghan, Jack and Finn. Also,
she is survived by her sister Kathleen Evers and nephew, Greg Erdelyan, M.D. She
was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Boyd, her parents Leo and Florence,
and siblings Eileen, Joseph, Elizabeth, Mary ,Florence “Flip” and Margaret.
Carol grew up enriched by farm life in rural Minnesota, which inspired a lifelong
passion for plants and nature. In her early teens, she established her treasured Texas
roots by moving to Houston to live with her sister, Eileen and brother-in -law Lou
Erdelyan.
Upon graduating from San Jacinto High School, Carol worked for Southwestern Bell.
It was during that time she met and married her beloved husband of 52 years, Jerry
Harlan Boyd. With that marriage, Carol and Jerry embarked on their greatest
accomplishment: starting and raising a family.
Carol’s loves of her life were her children; she journeyed motherhood with acute wit,
kindness and grace. She felt doubly blessed with the arrival of each grandchild and
every dog, cat, rabbit and hamster. Her passions included flower gardening, classic
film, reading( everything ) music, chocolate( everything ) and all things Irish.
It was her faith in God and humanity that fostered her indomitable spirit and buoyed
her innate resilience. She was a devoted wife, incomparable mother and trusted
friend. She will be deeply missed.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Carol’s name to the
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. https://www.wildflower.org
