Carol Ann Bortner passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at her home of more than 50 years, in Houston, Texas. Carol Ann Warner was born March 17, 1937 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of Mary Ann and Amos Clements Warner. The family moved to Austin, Texas when she was a young child where she spent most of her childhood and young adult life.
Carol graduated from the University of Texas Austin with a bachelor’s degree in Business. After graduating college, she moved for the remainder of her life to Houston, Texas where she met and married her soul mate Robert P. Bortner. He preceded her in death 22 years ago. They were married for 35 blissful years and raised 3 wonderful children together.
An excellent mother always and a homemaker until her children got older. Carol opened and ran her own bookstore called Carol’s Book Corner for 15 years. She was very successful and loved by all her customers who were also friends. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Over the years, she also adored teaching and passing down her knowledge of cooking to her grandchildren. She also loved to watch the food and cooking channels. Reading was another huge passion she loved in life.
Carol always cared for her family selflessly and tirelessly. She was tremendously loved and respected by her family because she was such an amazing and beautiful person. We will all miss her terribly and forever keep her in our hearts.
Carol is survived by her daughter Julie Leggett, son Blake Bortner and his wife Andie, son Craig Bortner and his wife Rene, sister Joanie Rowland, brother Tom Warner, brother Joe Warner, and sister Linda Pyles. She is also survived by four loving grandchildren, Katrina Steward, Megan Leggett, Katherine Bortner, Paige Bortner and Scarlette, as well as one great-grandchild Ethan Steward.
The immediate family will start receiving family and friends beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 11, 2017 for a viewing at Advantage Funeral Home located at 7010 Chetwood Dr. Houston, TX 77081. The funeral service celebrating her life will be held in the Chapel at the Advantage Funeral Home as well starting at 11:00 am immediately proceeding the viewing. After the service, guests are invited to follow the family to the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery for burial. Directions to the cemetery from the funeral home will be provided. A small reception will be held afterwards at Carol’s home.
