He married the love of his life, Maria Luisa, on February 23, 1963, and together they raised their four children in Houston. After retiring from the Harris County Department of Education, Mr. Padilla devoted himself to caring for his wife and grandchildren. Mr. Padilla enjoyed the outdoors and spent his mornings taking walks and listening to his favorite music, boleros. He will be lovingly remembered for his faith, his devotion to his family, his strength, and his humor. It was his great joy to bring smiles and laughter to those around him.
Mr. Padilla is survived by his daughter Yolanda P. Rivera and son-in-law Luis Rivera and their sons Luis (Sheila), Adam (Maria), and Cristian; his daughter Cecilia Padilla and her children Jessica (Brandon), Edward, Jennifer, and Catherine; his son Jose Padilla and daughter-in-law Sandra and their sons Andrew and Jay; his daughter Sylvia Padilla-Rivera and son-in-law Javier Rivera and their daughters Andrea and Alexis; and his great grandchildren, Sophia, Theodore, Matthew, Julia, Aaliyah, and Samuel.
He is also survived by his sister Guadalupe Reymundo, and by many loving nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, his parents, and his three brothers, Jesus Ojeda, Santos Padilla, and Francisco Padilla.
The family wishes to give special thanks to his caretakers, who became like family during his final months on Earth.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 2nd at Brookside Funeral Home beginning at 6 p.m., with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m on Monday, April 3rd at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, followed by burial at Glenwood Cemetery.
