Bruce Layton Mayes

On July 30, 1961 Bruce Layton Mayes “Shorty” was born to Milbon and Bertha Mayes in Cottonport, Louisiana. By the age of 5, Bruce moved to Houston, Texas to live with his father, Milbon and stepmother Della Mayes. He was baptized at an early age. By the time Bruce was 8 he had already began on his career as a mechanic. He loved working with his hands which also included cooking. He was a hardworking, fun filled, joke telling, family man.   He was preceded in death by his father Milbon Mayes, mother’s Bertha and Della Mayes, two sisters Doris Marable and Lisa Mayes.   He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Demetrice Mayes, two daughters Minister LaShundra Smith (Fentress) and Joy Wilson (Malcolm), one son Keith Needham, eight grandchildren, two step sons DeMelvin Kelley and Titus Reed, two step daughters Sierra Moore and Kyandra Smith, six sisters Clara Shelton, Gloria Marable, Eula Marable, Daphlia Collins (Chester), Valarie Mayes and Yolanda Mayes, one brother Quinton Mayes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
