After graduation from High School in Clarksville, Texas in 1948, Bob served in the U.S. Navy as Radioman RM3 on the Destroyer USS Richard B. Anderson. He moved to Houston when he left the Military and worked for Armco Steel then Shell Chemical. He married Johnnie Beth in 1951 and ALWAYS had jobs outside his employment that included refurbishing cars and boats, painting houses, even running a watermelon stand. Bob began his business career with the purchase of Maxey Road Lumber Company in 1963. From there he started a service company for Armco Steel, remodeled homes, and began investing in commercial real estate.
Bob is a member of First Baptist Church Galena Park. He was President of the Pecan Grove Civic Club from 1962 to 1969. Bob served as charter member and Director of the North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce in 1979 to 1982. He is a member of the Galena Park Masonic Lodge, Houston Scottish Rite and Arabia Shriners.
In 1980, Bob designed and developed Seclusion Estates Subdivision. He has had the privilege of always giving much back to the community.
Overcoming life threatening illnesses, he lost his eyesight because of Macular Degeneration. Bob graduated from the VA Medical Center for the Blind in Tucson, Arizona in June 2003.
This very warm-hearted man is survived by his wife of 71 years, Johnnie Sargent; two daughters, Charlotte Lynell Sargent and Terri Lea Stanton; two granddaughters, Mindy Speer and Shannon Jacobs, and Shannon's husband, Joseph Jacobs; and one great granddaughter, Winrey Jacobs.
Bob loved to fish and to travel, and God gave him a mind to find fun and a business opportunity any and everywhere.
His last years have been hard because of illness, and his family will always be in gratitude to his loving caregivers, Isela Marquez and Ronnie Lee.
A chapel visitation and funeral service for Bobby will be held Friday, September 16, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A graveside will occur Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 10:00 AM.
