Bobby Lee Matthews, Sr. was born on May 2, 1931 in Houston, Texas. He met and married the love of his life, Annie Waldon, in 1949. He began married life as a sheet metal worker, but joined the City of Houston Fire Department in 1956 where he served for 27 years, 2 months and 3 days. He worked hard and obtained the rank of District Chief before his retirement in 1986. Upon retirement he and Annie moved to Zavalla, Texas to do the things that they enjoyed such as hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening. He and Annie built several beautiful flower beds around the property which showcased his love of flowers. He was also heavily involved as a member of Lakewood Baptist Church by teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and leading the congregational music. He was ordained as a Deacon and was involved in a ministry called Master Builders that assisted with building Churches in the outlying areas. Due to medical issues he and Annie relocated to Magnolia, Texas in 2008 to be closer to family and eventually to Assisted Living in Tomball, Texas in July 2012. He and Annie were married 63 years and had five children; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, with a seventh great grandchild due March 2013. Bobby went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2013. He was 81 years old.
