Bobbie Jean Harville, 84, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017. She was born July 8, 1932 to Emma Lee Beene Rogers & Ardis Lee Rogers at home in the Freestone Community. Bobbie was born into a loving family that has always been close.
She went to the Freestone school. On May 27, 1949, she married her childhood sweetheart, Donald Waeland Harville. Bobbie was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church of Houston, and she loved her church family. When Don was wounded in the Korean War, she rode a train to the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D. C. At the time she was a young country girl who had never gone anywhere by herself. While in Washington she stayed with a friend for many months. Bobbie was a devoted wife to Don for 30 years. Prior to her husband’s passing, she was a homemaker. After Don died she went to work for the Wall Street Journal. Bobbie was very proud of this job since she had never worked outside the home. She worked there for 10 years before she retired to travel with her sisters. Once back in Houston, Don & Bobbie were members of the Disabled Veterans Association, where the men worked on wheelchairs and the women cooked. They always enjoyed this time together.
Bobbie is survived by two sisters, Faye Miller of Southlake, and Marie Byrne and husband Tom of Houston; sister-in-laws, Jerry Rogers of Teague, and Judy Lansford of Wortham; numerous nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, great-great nieces & nephews, and great-great-great nieces & nephews, many cousins & friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Harville; parents, Emma Lee Beene & Ardis Lee Rogers; mother-in-law, Mildred Todd; sisters, Louise Rogers, Zelma Barger, and Thelma Vincent; brothers, Ray, Joe Rogers.
Visitation will be held at Heights Funeral Home of Houston, Monday, February 13, 2017, 9:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10 AM. Graveside services will be at the Greenwoood Cemetery in Teague, TX at 3:00 PM.
