Blanche Palmer Craig, known to everyone as Bep, passed away the 21st of August 2015. Born in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania, she attended Temple University in Philadelphia, receiving a B.S. in Education. Upon graduation she taught high school Home Economics.
Bep met and married Allen Craig in Jacksonville, Florida, where she served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945. They were happily married for over 65 years. After the war, they lived in New York until moving to Houston in 1950.
Over the years, Bep raised her family, received her M.Ed. in Education from the University of Houston, and continued teaching.
She was both an avid bridge player and golfer, having numerous master points in bridge and three holes-in-one at Sugar Creek Country Club. She served many positions in the Woman’s Golf Association at both Champions Golf Club and Sugar Creek. Bep also loved to travel, which she and Allen did extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Russia.
After 35 happy years in Sugar Creek, she moved to The Village of Tanglewood, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of many new friends.
Bep was a loving and very much beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Allen. She is survived by her son, Allen Craig III and his wife, Jenny; their children, Daniel Craig and his wife, Erin, and Sarah Houston and her husband, Chris, and by her daughter, Melissa Craig McNeil and her husband, Barry, and their children Andrew McNeil and his wife, Truc, and Kathryn McNeil; as well as by her great-grandchildren, Mila and Will Craig.
The family wishes to thank Keith Aldinger, MD and Michael Su, DDS and their staffs and her caregivers over this past year, for their loving care.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 26th of August at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, in Houston. Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a graveside service at Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of the customary remembrances the family requests memorial contributions, in Bep’s memory, to be directed to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church or the charity of one’s choice.
