Billy Carlton Sheppard, Sr. was born on September 13, 1957 to Willie and Joy Sheppard in Borger, Texas. He later moved to Houston, Texas, going into his fourth grade at G.B.M. Turner Elementary School. Later he enrolled at Ryan Jr. High School, going on to graduate from Houston Technical Institute as a draftsman. After graduation, he went to work for Exxon, Foley's and McDonald's; eventually landing a position as a mail handler with the United States Postal Service where he retired after 38 years of service. He proudly held a position as an union steward for a number of years.
While working at McDonald's during the late summer of 1976, he met the love of his life, Mable Williams. Three months later, on December 4, 1976 they married and the rest is history. To this union of love, they shared a blended family that consists of daughters, La Shondra Williams and Sherice Sheppard, sons: Billy Carlton Sheppard, Jr.(Jenny), Joe Sheppard, Dedrick Sheppard and a very special nephew Demetris(Meaty) Williams.
Billy was full of life and laughter; always with an infectious smile on his face. His favorite pastime would be listening to "olde school" music, watching or attending sporting events and riding his bike throughout the neighborhood or at the park with his boom box blasting. Strangers would often stop, dance and sing as he rode by.
Billy is preceded in death by his father. He leaves to cherish his life and legacy, his loving wife, Mable Sheppard; daughters Sherice Sheppard and La Shandra Williams, sons Billy Carlton Sheppard, Jr., Joe Sheppard and Dedrick Sheppard, in addition to his favorite nephew Demetris Williams; mother Joy Juanita Sheppard, sisters: Valerie D. Bension, Gwendolyn J. Davis and Barbara A. Sheppard, along with granddaughters Ava and Zoe Sheppard, grandsons: Brayden Sheppard, Deion Gray, Darnell Gibson, Deveren Thomas, Abraham Hamilton, Chase Sheppard-Brown and Mason Sheppard, with a host of relatives, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
