On the spring night of March 21, 2025 the Lord needed a special person to watch over His littlest angels. Peacefully in her sleep, Billie Katherine Mason, age 72, of Aldine, Texas went to serve her Lord in Heaven. Katherine, as she was known. was born on July 19, 1952 to Helen Faye Lauter and William Mason.
She was a lifetime resident of Aldine,Texas and an active member of her community and it’s children. As a child she attended Oakwilde/Worsham elementary and as a young adult she began volunteering at the school for the children she was babysitting. She was a volunteer for the North Houston Baseball Little League, a member of the Oakwilde Civic Club, a volunteer for the Metro Houston Chapter of the March of Dimes, a board member of the Oakwilde/Worsham PTA and served as it’s president for a year. As a member of the Aldine Council of PTA’s she served as hospitality chairman.. She was awarded a Life Time Membership in the Texas PTA by Oakwilde/Worsham PTA.
She was the proudest of her many years as a VISA volunteer for Aldine ISD. She was a VISA volunteer at Oakwilde/Worsham elementary from about 1972 to 2014. During her years of volunteer service she received many awards for her over twenty thousands hours of volunteer service. When a new library was opened and dedicated at the school Aldine ISD placed a beautiful oak bench with a plaque honoring her for her many years of service.
She leaves a living legacy of the loving influence she had on so many of the children she loved and cared about as if they were her own. She enjoyed watching them grow up and attended their high school graduations and other life events. The halls of the school would ring with the excited shouts of "here comes the “snow cone lady ”or “library lady”. She would often treat them with snacks on snack day with money from her own pocket. Her generous heart couldn’t stand the thought of a child not having money to buy a snack.
She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Helen Lauter Cowart and brother James Carroll Cowart. She leaves behind no known relatives, and is survived by her life long friend and guardian Jason Connor and his wife Danielle of Humble, Texas, whom she lovingly thought of as the son she never had.
Katherine you were a beautiful soul and your life was well spent. You will stay in the hearts forever of all the lives you touched.
“Sweet, loving lady, now stretch your wings and fly, You’re loved by so many. We will never say goodbye. You have closed your eyes, no more tears, just go to your rest. Let your soul now lie peacefully. We know you did your best.
