Beverly Garrett Haltom

Beverly Garrett Haltom peacefully returned home to the Lord on Sunday, the 29 of October 2023. Her ninety- four years on this earth were joyfully filled with family, friends, and an abundance of love.

Beverly was born on the 20th of January 1929, to Hickman Garrett and Bessie Hoover Garrett. She spent her childhood in Houston and attended Lamar High School and Southern Methodist University before marrying John Neath and giving birth to the loves of her life, her three children, John Arthur Neath Jr., Ann Neath Card, and Betsy Neath Adair.

In 1969, Beverly married Colonel Winfield Scott Haltom. The two embarked on a life together with Beverly’s children as well as Scott’s two children, Scott Haltom and Steve Haltom. Many fun filled and adventurous years ensued including a relocation to Huntington Beach, California where Scott took a position as an executive at Toyota Motors, and after retirement, remained as a Toyota foreign operations consultant. The US Marine Corp. and Toyota Motors remained a big part of both of their lives as they traveled the world together and picked up many wonderful lifelong friends along the way.

Beverly was active with the Assistance League as well as the Ronald McDonald House upon her return to Houston, but no role ever meant as much to her as her role of mother and grandmother. Beverly was a matriarch in every sense of the word and her love was experienced daily by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While the gift of her love was abundant, so too was the gift of her strength. The warmth felt under her wing will never be forgotten by those lucky enough to be hers.

Amongst her many gifts, Beverly had a subtle way of bringing a smile to all of life’s complexities. Fun and levity were never far and there were very few of life’s big moments that weren’t made better by a long lunch and her much loved apple martinis.

Beverly is proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Scott Haltom; her son, John “Sonny,” Neath; her step-son, Scott Haltom; grandson, Christopher Card; her parents; her brother, Hickman Garrett Jr.; and sister, Betty Arthur.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Ann Card, and Betsy Adair and son-in-law, Gary Adair; step-son, Steve and wife Mary Ann; grandchildren, Heather Ferguson, Shane Haltom, Sarah Mirelles, Katie Barnhart, Lindsey McElligott, Shannon Neath, Melissa Gibson, Nicholas Adair, and Scott Adair; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is to be conducted at four o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 6th of November 2023, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

Immediately following all will be invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.

Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

While her time on earth has now passed, the gift of her life will live on for years to come through the love she shared with so many.
