Betty met the love of her life, Milliard while attending the University of Houston. They married on January 29, 1955. After time living in Georgia and New Jersey and starting their family, she was happy to return to her native Texas.
While raising their children Betty was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom where she packed lunches, carpooled, was a cheerleader for all her kids and a Girl Scout leader. Most importantly, she taught her children how to love.
Betty eventually returned to work as a third-grade teacher where she impacted many lives. Once her five children were older, she and Milliard began Square Dancing and created a life for themselves that would take them all over the world. After their retirement she and Milliard both gave back to the community through years of volunteering.
Betty spent many hours working for the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store near downtown Houston. She also gave 20+ years to the All Saints Food Pantry Ministry. When the Third Age Learning Center (TALC) opened at All Saints she served in many capacities. She won the honor of All Saints Volunteer of the Year in 2015.
She and Milliard enjoyed many road trips by car and motorhome and were also blessed to make trips to Europe and take several cruises. Her love of travel carried on with friends and family after Milliard's death.
With such a close-knit family, gatherings remained the highlight of her life whether it was to celebrate the holidays or a birthday, create a special meal together or play games late into the evening.
Betty's life was truly anchored in her faith. She lived a life following Jesus and the commandments. She was genuinely loving, and that love was returned by all who knew her. By leaving this earthly life on November 1st, it is truly awe-inspiring to know that All Saints Day will forever be her Memorial Day.
