Betty graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Education, and taught school in Hawaii, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia before returning home to marry Edward Robert Stone in 1960. Betty and Ed started their family in Amarillo, Texas with the birth of their two children, Brian and Mindy. Betty and Ed lived in Austin, TX, Portland, OR and Barcelona, Spain, before settling into their permanent home in Houston, Texas.
Betty and Ed were active members of Tallowood and Second Baptist Churches. Betty and Ed loved spending time at their second home on Lake LBJ, and spent many happy hours there with family and friends, including an annual Cousins Camp for their six grandchildren.
Ed passed away in 2009, and Betty moved into Parkway Place residence where she lived with old friends and met many new friends. Betty is survived by her son, Brian Stone and his wife Diane, and her daughter Mindy Grooms and her husband David. She is also survived by six loving grandchildren, Sam, Evan, Rachel, Robert, Davis and Katie as well as a great grandchild, Hazel.
Betty was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and friend to many. Her family will miss her terribly but are comforted that she is in the loving arms of Ed and family and friends that preceded her.
The family would like to thank Betty’s doctors, caregivers and friends who loved and supported her during her illness.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.memorialoaksfunerals.com for the Stone family.
