Betty Josephine Ruthstrom

Betty Jo Ruthstrom of New Caney, Texas went home to our Lord on January 22, 2020. She is formerly from Bellaire and Houston, Texas. Betty was the first born of 7 children and only girl to Edwin and Irene Kuehn of Houston, Texas on December 15, 1931. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Incarnate Word Academy and Hermann Hospital Nursing School.

Betty had 6 children, Debbie, Jeanna and James with her 1st husband, James McKay; Daniel, Joseph and Mary with James Ruthstrom, the man who was the love of her life. A fairytale love story of 58+ years. He loved and adored her. He loved her children from day one as his own. They created a home full of love, laughter, faith and prayer with Betty as the heart of the family. She was wife, daughter, sister, Mom, Grandma, Jesus Grandma, Great and Great-Great Grandma, Momma Betty and friend. The prayer warrior and spiritual guide of many.

Betty was a devout Catholic who loved Our Lord. She was a Third Order Carmelite; sang in church choirs all her life, volunteered in many capacities in the church. She loved music, art, and painting. A green thumb for gardening, loved the outdoors, especially fishing.

She is survived by her children; Deborah Vestal, James McKay and wife Lori, and Mary Green. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, James Ruthstrom; children, Jeanna Guajardo, Daniel Ruthstrom and Joseph Ruthstrom.

She leaves cherished memories to her children, brothers and sisters-in-law, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, adopted children of her heart and friends.

Mom, we will honor your life by being your legacy of love, faith and service. We love you. We miss you. We’ll see you again.

We would like to thank Memorial Hermann Hospice staff and medical staff- Thank You for the wonderful care, love and support during this final chapter of her beautiful life.

Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Friday, January 31, 2020 at St. John’s of the Cross Catholic Church in New Caney with Father Linh Nguyen officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening January 30, 2020 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a rosary being recited at 7:00pm with Deacon Scott Matz and Chaplain Laurie Taylor officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, James Green, Carl Vestal, Jr. and Ricky Guajardo along with James MacAllister, John Smith, Cameron Smith, Luke Kuehn, Zeke Kuehn, Ike Kuehn, Kenneth Clayburg and Matt Finley with Steve Green as an honorary pallbearer.
