Betty Jo Pate

Betty Jo Pate, born October 30, 1929 to Joe and Gertrude DiChiara in Houston, Texas, passed away August 25, 2013 in Houston. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her devoted, loving, and caregiving children, Charles Dee Pate and Gina Jo Pate; sister, Virginia Durrett and husband, John; niece, Diane Lube; nephew, John Durrett Jr., and other family and friends.

Among her accomplishments was being a member of the Carlton Cadettes, the drill team at Jeff Davis High School. She majored in drama at the University of Houston, where she excelled in acting and stage performance. She taught first grade for thirty years for Houston ISD. But the accomplishments of which she was always the most proud were her two children. She will always be remembered as a caring, loving, and giving Mom.

She will also be remembered as a great lover of music, drama, and animals. She leaves behind eight cats she was devoted to, and they were devoted to her.

We love you, Mom, and we will never forget our time together, the things you taught us, and most importantly, your love for us.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Heights Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
