Betty Jean Acton Kennedy, 92, was born on October 22, 1930, in Houston, Texas, the only child of Amy Eugenia Taake and Frank Hewitt Acton. She died peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2022. She was a graduate of John H. Reagan High School and the Lilly Jolly School of Nursing at Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin sons, Michael and Timothy Kennedy.
Jean is survived by her husband of 71 years, Jack Hunter Kennedy; her daughters, Kathy Kennedy and Karen Krause; son-in-law Rick Krause and daughter, Kim Clements; grandchildren Amy Glassick and Brian Krause; great-grandchildren Beau and Luke Glassick; and Margaret Sublet, whom she loved like a daughter.
Jean was a cradle Episcopalian and a member of Ascension Episcopal Church for more than forty years. She served on the Parish Life Committee, as a greeter and an usher, and on the Altar Guild.
She lived and made a home for her family in Rio de Janeiro, Paris, London, and New Jersey returning to Houston between Jack’s international assignments.
She enjoyed playing golf at Pine Forest Country Club and was a talented duplicate bridge player. Jean was also an avid reader and continued to read until very recently despite the challenges she faced.
Visitation with family will be held on Friday, December 16, at Ascension Episcopal Church, 2525 Seagler Rd., Houston, TX 77042, beginning at 10:00AM prior to the funeral service at 11:00AM. A private graveside service at Forest Park Lawndale will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Ascension Episcopal Church Altar Guild Fund or Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030-4123. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the second floor nurses and staff for their compassion and excellent care.
