Betty Helms Hoppe, 82, of Virginia Beach, passed away on December 22, 2016. Betty was born in Hamilton, Mississippi to Thomas Hubert Helms and Kathryn Crump Helms. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert William Hoppe, to whom she married in 1963, as well as by her brother, Hubert Harold Helms. She is survived by her son, T. Gavin Hoppe, and his wife, Janice K. Hoppe; her grandchildren, Jack H. Hoppe and Mia G. Hoppe, as well as by her step-sons, Robert W. Hoppe, Jr. and Allan A. Hoppe.
Betty grew up in Kannapolis, North Carolina where she graduated from J.A. Brown High School. She was retired from a career in accounting with IBM and Rices Nachman’s department store. She was a member of Indian River Baptist Church for many years. In her early years, she was an avid bowler and archer. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, at The Chapel of Eternal Peace Funeral home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A celebration of her life will be held the following day at 10:30 am.
