Betty Lou was the third of five children born to Bessie Renfrow Burford and Hiram W. Burford, both deceased. She is survived by her younger sister, Dorothy Sue Mowery, her husband of 59 years, James A. Davis, her children, Rhonda Davis and Doug Davis (Tracey), and the true joys of her life, her grandchildren, Kelsey, Wade, and Kyle, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and other family. Her older brothers, Davey Lee Burford, and Weldon Burford and her youngest sister Judy Barnes predeceased her.
Betty Lou was fortunate to grow up on the Burford Dairy Farm in Fresno, Texas and the lessons of hard work and responsibility she learned there shaped her life (and ours!). She and her sisters faithfully cared for their parents at the Burford Family home for many years as they aged. This devotion set the example which we followed as Alzheimer’s took her from us.
Special thanks to Maria Alexander, and her huge heart of gold…we were blessed and fortunate to find her and benefit from her loving care of “Ms. Betty” for over 2½ years. Special thanks also to those who were able to stop by over the last couple of weeks. We appreciated it and we know she did too. Betty Lou was a proud Native Texan and American, and believed in the ethic of hard work, loyalty and “doing right”, even when that ethic may not have been the easiest path, which has made our State and Country the greatest in the world.
A visitation and graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. The visitation will be held at 12:00pm, and a short graveside service will be at 1:00pm followed by a reception.
To honor Betty Lou and her love of Texas and the USA, we ask that those who are able to attend wear something casual with bluebonnets or “Red, White and Blue”.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
