Betty Fore Craig, of Houston, passed away on Saturday, the 7th of October. She was 90 years of age. Betty was born on March 20, 1927 in Houston, Texas to Emmett W. Fore Sr. and Nita Fore. She grew up in the Woodland Heights. After graduating from John H. Reagan High School in 1944 she worked for Gulf Oil Corporation until her retirement in 1982.
In 1952 Bobby Craig was stationed in San Marcos, Texas with the Army where he and Betty met. They married in 1953 and shared 59 wonderful years together in Houston until his passing.
After retiring, Betty volunteered for several months each year to support the Senior Pro Golf Tournament that was held in Houston. She made many new friends during this time. She was also a long time member of Westminster United Methodist Church.
She was known as Aunt Betty to all, from Galveston to Tomball and beyond, and was celebrated for her tireless generosity. Her favorite thing was to do something kind for family or friends every single day. Making someone’s day easier truly brought her joy.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bobby, her parents, and brother Olympian Emmett W. Fore Jr, and sister Nina Lee Hill. She is survived by many special nieces and nephews, along with great, great great and great great great nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 12th of October, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
An interment is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 13th of October, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street in Houston, where Rev. Jeff Powers Sr., Pastor of Westminster United Methodist Church is to officiate. A uniformed steward from Geo. H. Lewis & Sons will be positioned at the cemetery entrance, so as to direct attendees to the gravesite.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Mrs. Craig’s name be directed to Westminster United Methodist Church, 5801 San Felipe St, Houston, TX 77057
