Betty Joyce Glascock Clifton departed peacefully from her earthly home Saturday, January 31, 2015. She was born to the late Alvera Schultz Glascock and the late Harold Glascock on March 6, 1931, in Victoria County, Texas.
Betty was raised in Bloomington, TX, and attended Patti Welder High School in Victoria, TX. Betty’s first husband was Robert A. Arbuthnot. Robert and Betty have one daughter, Kitty.
In 1969 she remarried Ben F. “B.F.” Clifton, of Houston, TX. She moved to Houston where she remained for the rest of her life. Her beloved sister Katherine Dorroh and her husband Ed lived in the same neighborhood and they were inseparable.
Betty was an independent, strong willed woman, who knew her own mind. Betty loved all animals and was never without cats or dogs in her home. She even allowed families of raccoons to live in her attic. She was also a devout Christian and lived her life accordingly. It is certain that God knows her and has welcomed her to Heaven.
Betty was a gracious hostess, making her home open for special occasions, especially during Christmas. Betty had a natural artistic talent and she made use of it. She loved craft work and anyone who visited her home could see that. During Christmas and other holidays Betty decorations rivaled all others; it was a treat to be invited to spend Christmas Eve at Betty’s home.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends in Galveston where she and “B.F.” owned a beach house for many years. She and her family and friends spent many days and evenings walking and playing along the beach, playing cards and dominoes and eating too much good food.
Betty was a wonderful cook. She was famous for her potato soup, meat loaf and custard pie. She may have invented Meals on Wheels as she would often deliver food to her family and friends. The bright side of being sick was that you could count on receiving a large bowl of Betty’s delicious potato soup and “sick pie”.
Betty was a devoted mother and best friend to her daughter Kitty and a loving wife and partner to her late husband, “B.F.”. She will be missed by family and friends but we know she too has ascended into Heaven.
While Betty was predeceased by her husband, “B.F.” Clifton and her sister, Katherine Dorroh, she is survived by her daughter Kitty Wilkinson and her husband Robert Wilkinson of Houston, TX, niece, Kimberly Followwill and her husband Dr. Jerry Followwill of Victoria, TX, nephews Sam Followwill and Tom Followwil of Victoria, TX, step children Larry Clifton of Houston, TX, Chris Clifton of Houston, TX, Carol Davidson and her husband Steve of Granbury. TX, Gail Clifton of Myakka City, FL, nephews Lee Clifton of Houston, TX, and Travis Clifton and his wife, Alexandra Clifton of Houston, TX, Ron Davidson of Pueblo West, CO, and Natalie Davidson.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for February 7, 2015 at 12.3O PM at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX, 77079. (281) 497-2210. Please join us for refreshments after the ceremony at the funeral home hospitality room.
