“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3 Betty Joe Blanton was born on May 5, 1932. She was the second child of Robert and Addie Lee Bremby, sibling to Pearlean Coley and was the last living member of this small Texas family. Betty attended Richard Brock Elementary and Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, Texas. She spent many years as a homemaker and also worked as a cook for The Shulte-United Company for a number of years. She worked tirelessly for her employers and selflessly to take care of her family. Betty married Harry James Blanton in 1951 in Houston and to this union four beautiful children were born. Harry passed away in 1986. She was a faithful member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Houston for many years and served on the Usher Board until she fell ill and could no longer attend services. Betty leaves behind a loving family of children and grandchildren who will cherish her memory. She is survived by two daughters: Loure Blanton and Annette Ingraham (Allan); two sons: Harold (Roberta) and John Blanton (Umo); and six grandchildren: Cory and Derrick Ingraham, Kyle and Autumn Blanton, LaTricia Gillespie (Terrence) and LaTonja Moore (Bryan). She also leaves behind a host of great grandkids, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbors, who loved her dearly. After suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for over twelve years, God asked Betty to come home at 10:05 AM on Friday 26th August, 2016. She will be missed, but her spirit lives on and the grace of God will be her constant company, as it was on earth.
