James and Lennie Gamble, who preceded her in death. She grew up in Houston and attended Phyllis
Wheatley High School. After high school, she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse and worked for
Jeff Davis Hospital for several years. While working as a nurse, she met and married Roosevelt Riley.
Together, they owned and established a successful business for 38 years known as Uncle Buddy Used
Cars, located on Washington Avenue. While working in the business, with her husband and sons,
she was affectionately known as Mrs. Bettie and became a driving force in its success and community
outreach.
Bettie accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Green Grove Baptist Church for
several years. She later joined Greenspoint Baptist Church, where she was a trustee and Sunday school
teacher. She then joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where she was also a trustee as well as a
member of the choir and Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Bettie was known for her elegance and style, and found much joy in traveling the world, visiting
such places as Israel, South Africa, Egypt, Europe, the Caribbean and several other countries.
After the death of her husband, she met and married Issac Brown of Houston, TX. in 2008. They shared
several blissful years together and enjoyed traveling until her health began to decline.
On Sunday May 7, 2023, God called home His faithful servant. Mrs. Bettie is preceded in death by her
youngest son Marcellus Riley. She is survived by her husband, Isaac Brown and her three sons Kenneth
(Hazel), Anthony Penn, and Byron Riley. She leaves a host of other family and friends including eight
grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
