Bertha Jeanne Leon Burda was born in Houston, Texas on October 2nd, 1930. She was the only and very-much-loved child of Bertha Vogel Leon and Rudy Leon. Bertha was a true “Houston girl”, living all of life in Houston (except for a few years in New Jersey as her husband Robert built the Standard Oil Building in Rockefeller Center). She graduated in 1948 from Jefferson Davis High School, and then again in 1952 with a teaching degree from the University of Houston. Bertha married her lifetime friend, Robert Lee Burda, on December 16, 1951. Robert was the love of her life, and Bertha went to be with Jesus with Robert by her side. She was a long-time member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Bertha is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert; son, Stephen Lee Burda; daughter, Elizabeth Anne Burda Peairson; grandchildren Dustin Burda, Kimberley Burda, Matthew Peairson, and Anne Peairson; daughter-in-law Tricia Burda; and son-in-law Mitchell Peairson. She was loved dearly by her family and friends, and she will be missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her. Services will be held at Heights Funeral Home, with a visitation from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, July 31st, 2011, and the funeral on Monday, August 1st, 2011 at 2:00 pm. The family will hold a private interment following the funeral.
