Berry Dwain Nance, age 87, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021. Berry was born February 17, 1934, in Morton, Texas. Berry took pride in being a supportive father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a helping friend to everyone he met. He spent his days assisting others, quietly giving support and encouragement.
Berry loved football, watching his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, and taking pride in being on the football team as #19 at Idalou High School. He worked in the farming industry as a farmer, manager in fertilizer sales, then through the Co-op distributing propane. He was as proud of keeping his clients topped off with propane without them having to call and ask for service, as he was of his Dale Carnegie classes and following his stocks in the WSJ. For many years he hosted support group retreats for Lubbock widows at the family cabin in Ruidoso, NM. He spent his last few years with relatives and friends exploring Houston and doing things he had never done before, such as polo matches, viewing bluebonnets, candy adventures, watching model trains and great granddaughter softball games to name a few. Through it all he wore his John Deere baseball cap and kept cotton bolls in his room to remind him of the farm and West Texas sunsets.
Berry is survived by his two children, Pamela Potter and her husband, Larry DeFuria, of Houston and Michael Nance of Bovina; three grandchildren, Justin Potter of Charlotte, NC, Andrew Potter and his wife, Kimber Potter, of Kingwood and Alan Michael Nance of Bovina; two great granddaughters Makayleigh and Addilynn Potter of Kingwood; sister Sandra Dennis and her husband, Pete Dennis, of Adamsville; nephews Wade Lambert and partner, Steve Sison, of Brooklyn, NY, Bret Nance and his wife, Alynn Nance and their children; and special family connections Karen Hartman and Jillian Youngman. David Potter is a special friend of the family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin Hiram and Jaunita Nance of Idalou, his first wife and high school sweetheart, Patsy Burelsmith Nance, of Bovina and his second wife, also widowed, Lovey Harris Nance, of McAdoo.
A special thank you to the people at Elmcroft of Cy-Fair and Hospice Plus of Houston for extending the time we shared with him from weeks to months. Visitation in Houston will be Saturday, August 28 from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home Cypress Creek. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM.
Berry will be laid to rest with a graveside service at Resthaven Funeral Home & Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday, September 4 at 2:30 pm.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Make-A- Wish Foundation, 12625 Southwest Freeway, Stafford, TX 77177. Paying it forward and helping others by producing more “Victory Lap” memories.
