It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bennie Jean Gray Landry Webber on December 21, 2024, at the age of 96. Bennie Jean was born on September 3, 1928, in Donna Texas to Bennett Arthur and Oma Sue (Parish) Gray.
Bennie Jean grew up in the Nacogdoches area and graduated from Reagan High School in Houston at 15, before starting work at a downtown bank at 16. She resided in Houston for the rest of her days.
Jean was a loving mother and grandmother and her kindness touched everyone she met. In addition to spending time with her wide circle of family and friends, she enjoyed travel, gardening, painting, crossword puzzles and reading. She was a member of Fair Haven United Methodist Church for many years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Mary Lou Gray Martin, George Edwill Gray, Naoma Carolyn Gray McMinn, and Molly Janean Gray Hoke; her husbands Daniel Moses Landry (married 11-2-1946 until his death on 11-30-1990) and Joseph Franklin Webber (married 5-9-1992 until his death on 2-16-2006); and her son Daniel Bennett Landry, who passed away on 11-21-2018.
She is survived by her children Linda Jean Landry Noble and her husband Van Carroll; daughter-in-law Carol Landry; son Richard Arthur Landry and his wife Nancy Rohrbach Landry; son Steven David Landry and his husband Karl Moritz; and her stepchildren Colleen Webber Chamberlin, Laurie Webber McBride, and Joseph Webber.
She was beloved by her grandchildren Daniel Thomas Landry, Amy Michele Landry Hannan and her husband Andrew Hannan, Kristin Elaine Landry King and her husband Russell King, and Spencer Thomas Landry and his wife Katerina Landry, as well as her great-grandchildren Jessika MacKinzie Landry, Daniel Jakob Landry, Campbell Rose King, Bennett Russell King, Elliott Hope Yishuang King, Isaiah Edward Yang King, Lauren Michele Buss, Gregory Alexander Hannan, Richard Alexander Hannan, and, on the way, Theodore Sebastian Landry.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Wood Glen Court for their compassionate care and support to Jean during the last two and a half years. Also a special thanks to Harli and Rory for your dedication, love and comfort. Jean felt that you were an angel and a blessing.
We extend our deepest appreciation to Jean’s Hospice nurses, Anna and Carolyn, for their unforgettable kindness and compassion in caring for Jean in her final days.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 3 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and a funeral service will be held Saturday, January 4 at 12:00 (noon). Both will take place at the Brookside Funeral Home – Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Pkwy, Houston, TX 77068, followed by interment at Forest Park- Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023.
