He enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and received his honorable discharge in 1955.
Ben met Mary Frances Padilla in Houston and they married on January 6, 1957. Ben is survived by his wife, Mary and their six children: Mary F Boggs, Melinda B Holley, Sylvia Rocha, Ben Hernandez Jr, Jacinta Long and John Hernandez along with sons-in-law Jesse Soto, Joaquin Rocha, David Long and daughter-in-law Darlene Hernandez. After almost 67 years of marriage, Ben and Mary had 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Ben had many professions over the years beginning at the age of 13 working with his grandfather in a farmer's market in Houston. He worked many years as a truck driver and then moved into the glass industry. After retiring, he worked for Kroger for another two decades and retired again.
Over the years, Ben and Mary were very active members of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Humble volunteering and teaching classes. They also taught Bible study for 28 years at the prison in Atascocita. Their mission was to bring as many people to Christ as possible.
Ben was a Godly, Christian man that always set a great example for his family and friends. He treasured his family and would frequently remind us to "Give it to God". He was always praying and thanking God for everything and everyone, even until his last days on earth.
Ben passed away at home in Humble the morning of December 12, 2023.
