Stephen Benjamin “Ben” Dedman passed away on Sunday, the 9th of December 2012, at the age of 44, after a short but courageous battle with renal cancer. Ben was born on the 20th of August 1968, in New York City, New York, and moved to Texas as quickly as he could.
Ben graduated from Texas A & M University in 1992 and worked in sales in the oil and gas industry. He was an avid outdoorsman. No one loved hunting or fishing the north jetties as much as he.
Ben was preceded in death by his mother, Johna Clark Dedman, and his father, Harry Lee Dedman.
Ben is survived by his wife, Alicia Baggett Dedman and his sister, Harriet Dedman Salem. He had three nieces who adored him; Alexis Hux (15), Whitney Perkins (12), and Lillian Salem (9). He had four nephews who worshipped him; Landon Hux (13), Harry Salem (7), Ben Salem (5) and Wesley Perkins (3). He had three brothers-in-law, who thought him rather fine as well; Oscar Gonzalo Salem, Ricky Hux and Craig Perkins. His mother and father-in-law, Marguerite and Patrick Baggett loved him like their own son.
A memorial service, honoring Ben's life, is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon Saturday, the 15th of December, in the Jasek Chapel at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following all are to be invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the service.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Ben’s memory may be directed to the Coastal Conservation Association, 6919 Portwest Dr., Suite 100, Houston, TX, 77024; or to M.D. Anderson Renal Cancer Research Fund, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX, 77210.
