Beatrice Vijil Powell, lovingly known as “Ms. Bea,” age 86, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025. A woman of unwavering faith, boundless love, and tireless service, Beatrice leaves behind a beautiful legacy and a family who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Long “Dick” Powell, her parents, step-parents, and her sister.
Beatrice is survived by her three sons, one daughter, and three daughters-in-law. She was a proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to twenty-one great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters, two brothers, and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends.
Ms. Bea lived a life of devotion to others. She began her career as a school bus driver for Houston ISD and The Lozano Bus Service, safely delivering students to and from school with care and kindness. Later, she continued her calling of service by working as a Human Service Tech with Children’s Protective Services, where she transported foster children. Her dedication over 20+ years touched the lives of many vulnerable youth, offering them comfort, safety, and love during difficult times.
A true woman of God, Beatrice believed deeply in the power of prayer and the strength of her Christian faith. She loved unconditionally and had a heart big enough to hold anyone in need. Her involvement in her community was another expression of that love — she was always active in PTA, Dixie Little League, and OFA Baseball, supporting her children and the community's youth.
No matter the situation, Ms. Bea always had a smile. Her warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit made her a light in the lives of everyone who knew her. She fought the good fight with grace and dignity and is now resting in the loving arms of Jesus.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.
The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, with a committal service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
Beatrice will be remembered always for her selfless heart, her unwavering faith, and the love she poured into her family, her work, and her community. Though she is no longer with us, her light will shine on through the many lives she touched.
