Beatrice C. (Bea) Martinez, 92, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas on Saturday September 12, 2020. She was born in Houston, Texas on August 16, 1928, the daughter of Raymond and Josephine Carrillo. She is survived by her adoring children, Linda L. Martinez, Eleanor R. Kabay and husband, Gregg, and James Edward Martinez and wife, Sofica, her loving sisters, Esther C. Lopez and husband, Elias, Lillian C. Ferguson and husband, Robert, Otilia C. Mendez and husband Raymond, Eloise C. Brambila and husband, Oscar, and brother Albert A. Carrillo and wife, Imelda and sister-in-law, Geneva Carrillo. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Helen Huerta, Rosie Reyes and husband, Adolph, Irene Quijano, brother-in-law Arthur Martinez and wife, Josefina.
She was blessed with eight grandchildren Kristin Kabay, Gregory Kabay, Jonathan Kabay, Adam Martinez, Abraham Martinez, Christina Martinez, Beatrice Martinez and George Martinez, many nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren, grand nieces/nephews, all whom she loved dearly. In addition she was excited about the birth of Gregory and his wife Heather's baby due in October.
Bea was a native Houstonian and spent the majority of her life as a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She graduated from Sam Houston High School where she played drums in the Black Battalion. She was always involved in her children's education. This included being a room mother and helping with other school activities. She volunteered at Wesley Community Center teaching ceramics and was a Brownie Leader. When her children were older she went to work helping her husband in a family owned business. Later she worked at her church, Juan Marcos Presbyterian, running a community outreach program that provided assistance for the community. She loved the seniors that came for daily meals. She was a terrific cook and loved baking, taking after father who was a baker at Rice Institute.
She enjoyed spending time with family and was a devoted sister to her eight siblings. Life for Bea revolved around family and community. Faith was an Important part of her life and she practiced her faith daily. Bea along with her devoted husband, George were a constant support for the entire family. If someone needed assistance George and Bea were ready the help.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Josephine Carrillo; her husband of 54 years, George Z. Martinez; her sisters, Emily Garza, Angelina Zamora and brothers, Raymond Carrillo, Jr and David Carrillo. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Estella and Johnny Mata, Ninfa and Henry Alvarado, Alex Huerta and Rudy Quijano.
Funeral services at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home at 1:00pm with burial following at 2:00pm. Visitation will begin at 12:00pm until service time. Serving as pallbearers will be Gregory Carrillo, Steven Carrillo, Gregg Kabay, Gregory Kabay, Jonathan Kabay and Raymond C. Mendez.
