side.
She was born to the late Egerton and Beryl Reece, September 1, 1942, in Spanish Town,
Jamaica. Barbara graduated from St. Jago College and worked in the secretarial field before
going into childcare and becoming a foster parent. She was a loving wife, mother, sister,
supportive friend and beloved Nana to all.
Barbara is survived by husband Charles Saunders and their children Courtney Saunders of Las
Vegas, Kirk Saunders, Nadine Hunt, Elizabeth Saunders, and Mark Saunders of Houston; her
grandchildren Heather Belcher, Landon Parson and the Hunt twins due in May and her
great-grandchildren Nathaniel and Scout Belcher. She is also survived by her children from the
Green family: Jules and Taisha and their children: Desean, Xavier, and Sarai, as well as her
children from the Ogunleye family: Francis and Bunmi and their children and grandchildren:
Abimbola, Obafemi, Kolawole, Jolaade, Rhyan, Cason, Khyle, and Bodhy. Barbara also leaves
behind a myriad of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Barbara devoted much of her time to sewing and travelling, and at least as much to speaking on
the telephone with her beloved family and friends. She never hesitated to open her home and
heart to anyone. All were welcome to her hospitality, compassion, and stories about her life and
family. Her laugh was infectious, her support unyielding, and her slipper quick! Nana, as she
was known, was a guiding light to anyone who needed passage.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at Brookside
Funeral Home. There will be a reception held at the Saunders’ home after for those who wish to
celebrate her life with the family.
